Dentist Greenville SC - Five Star Reviews
Five star review from Google
Palmer distinctive dentistry was the best experience I've ever had at a dentist. They treat you with respect and everyone is very courteous. Pricing is reasonable and the work I had done was quick and painless. Although the time the doctor spent explaining all the options was priceless.

Proper oral hygiene can help prevent periodontal disease for residents in Greenville

Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is an infection of the gum tissue and jawbone that is caused by a build-up of bacteria. Plaque is a sticky substance that develops on the teeth, containing millions of bacteria. If plaque is not removed regularly from teeth, it can cause tooth decay and gum disease.

As you eat, the sugars in your foods are consumed by bacteria and turned into acid that erodes the enamel. This continual erosion will eventually lead to a cavity. When plaque is not removed daily it will eventually turn into tartar. Tartar is a hardened form of plaque that becomes increasingly hard to remove. This repeated build-up of bacteria, plaque, and tartar is what causes gum disease.

The initial stage of gum disease, called gingivitis, is largely characterized by the inflammation of the gums. The swollen tissue may appear red and bleed during brushing. The good news is that gingivitis is reversible. Guests who develop gingivitis will need a thorough professional cleaning to remove all build-up from the teeth. From there, major improvements in oral hygiene at home can help keep plaque and tartar away.

When gingivitis is left untreated, it will advance and cause irreversible damage. This more serious form of gum disease will break down tissue and bone. Guests with advanced gum disease will notice receding gums that begin to pull away from the teeth, leaving deep pockets. These pockets are susceptible to further infection and can eventually destroy the tissue and cause tooth loss.

Plaque is constantly growing in your mouth and the build-up can be difficult to see due to its lack of color. The best form of treatment for plaque is brushing and flossing daily. We encourage all of our guests to brush at least once in the morning and once in the evening with a soft-bristled toothbrush taking special care to reach all surfaces of the teeth. Floss in the evening to remove any plaque from tiny crevices that are difficult to reach with a toothbrush. Eating a healthy diet low in sugar can help reduce the amount of plaque. Palmer Distinctive Dentistry uses Ozone therapy when treating periodontal disease. The Ozone will help in killing the bacteria and infection that is caused by the periodontal disease. Lastly, if you are in the Greenville area, make sure to keep regular visits with the team at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry for exams and professional cleanings.
