Hygiene Facts

Welcome to the Hygiene section of our dental practice. I am Crystal, your Smile Therapist, and we would like to share some information about the services I provide to our special guests.

Prevention is the most critical part of life-long dental health and it is important to have a check-up and cleaning every 3-6 months. At our office, this is a visit where you are pampered while we perform a gentle cleaning. Your comfort is very important to us. During these recare visits, we will take the time to evaluate your dental needs, inform you of new products and services that can help you reach your long-term dental goals. We also perform thorough exams for cancer, periodontal, and other oral diseases. We utilize digital x-rays which provide us with optimal diagnostic ability with minimal radiation exposure. While our Dr loves to create beautiful smiles, we restore teeth to optimal health. It is vital that your teeth have a good healthy foundation on which to build. The leading cause of tooth loss in adults today is periodontal disease. It is our goal to insure that our guests have a healthy foundation.

Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease) is an infection of the tissues that surround and support the teeth. In the early stages of gum disease, known as gingivitis, the gums become red swollen and bleed easily. Other symptoms that you should look for as signs of gum disease are bad breath, loose teeth, and changes in the way your teeth fit together. If you begin to notice any of these symptoms, you may need perio therapy to remove plaque and tartar that become trapped under the gum line. This treatment is available in our office and involves using local anesthesia to allow for comfort during the procedure. This procedure is called Scaling, Root Planing, or Perio Therapy. We have ultrasonic tools to effectively clean below the gum line to promote healing and restore health to the periodontal tissues.

We also recommend certain tools that help our guests continue good hygiene at home. Through the use of the Sonicare toothbrush and the Hydrofloss oral irrigator, our guests can effectively clean their teeth at home. We like to call this a partnership between my guests and myself. This will help promote long-term dental health, and keep gum disease under control. We also offer therapeutic rinses, which benefit by killing bacteria that cause disease and freshen breath. Our guests are encouraged to try our rinses to find the particular one they like best.

We welcome the opportunity to have you as a personal guest and to partner with you to achieve a healthy, beautiful and life-long smile.
