Alyssa explains how habit elimination therapy got her a party
Long term oral habits like thumb sucking can lead to alignment issues. Dr. Palmer's office has experience helping children break these bad habits. We use a habit elimination therapy program in which we work with the child and the parents to determine how best to eliminate the habit. When success happens, we celebrate with you and your child! Alyssa shares with you what that celebration is like.

- Hi! I’m Alyssa. I'm 9 years old. I used to suck my finger until I got Mr. Joe. I slept with him every night for 30 days and I am hoping it will work. This is my party day — I had a party. Here's my cake. This is my chart. I mark every day that I finished
completing not sucking my finger.
- That's awesome and who helped you with this, Alyssa?
- Ms. Jessica and my mom.
- Alright, and you haven't sucked your finger for 30 days?
- Yep.
- That's awesome and did you get a prize also at the end?
- Had a party!
- You had a party and Ms. Jessica gave you a shirt. That's awesome. We’re so proud of you and thank you for sharing your testimony and letting other little girls know, and little boys, that they can do the same thing that you did and they could be just as brave and excited about it, as you are. Thank you so much, Alyssa.
- You’re welcome. Bye!
- Hi! I'm Alyssa's mom, Annalisa. We've been long time patients here at Dr. Palmer's office and Alyssa just completed the habit elimination therapy and we have been more than happy with her and with the outcome. We didn't know what to expect coming in and just the accountability, what we've learned from it — everything has been so helpful and we're so glad we decided to go through with it, and I think it's something that will really stick with Alyssa long-term. We’re so thankful for all the help we’ve received, especially with Jessica.
