Dentist Greenville SC - Five Star Reviews
Five star review from Google
Palmer distinctive dentistry was the best experience I've ever had at a dentist. They treat you with respect and everyone is very courteous. Pricing is reasonable and the work I had done was quick and painless. Although the time the doctor spent explaining all the options was priceless.

Dr. Palmer explains how sleep apnea devices promote whole-self health

Dr. Palmer wears a sleep apnea device, and here he discusses how you could benefit, too. See this no-bulk, no-noise alternative to CPAP. By repositioning your jaw, these lightweight dental appliances open up your airway. You breathe healthy and sleep soundly through the night! These devices also keep your teeth healthy and looking their best, by preventing destructive tooth-grinding, which often occurs when you don’t realize it: in your sleep
Transcript
It's bright and early, 6.15 in the morning and we start real early here at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry to serve our patients. Luckily, I get a really good night’s sleep. And one reason I get a good night’s sleep is because I wear a sleep apnea appliance. Sleep is very important for our bodies. When we are sleeping, we are supposed to be healing and healing takes a lot of oxygen. If we snore and our oxygen levels drop down, we are breathing through our mouth, which is not the healthiest way to breathe and those kinds of problems decrease our oxygen supply. If it drops below 9%, it can even wake us up. If it drops even lower than that or stops, we can even die in our sleep.

So, it's very important to have proper oxygen when we sleep. Lack of oxygen when sleeping has a great effect on heart disease, causing heart problems. It’s also related to diabetes and many other chronic type diseases. So, it's very important that we have oxygen while we are sleeping. A sleep device simply advances the lower jaw so that it opens up the airway and allows you to breathe through your nose. This is a type of sleep appliance we use. It just fits together with wings so that you can't slide back, and we can set it, we can bring the jaw further forward if we need to. It also has a little bit of limited motion from side to side, so it helps to stop tooth grinding which is also related to sleep. So, the signs that you might have sleep problems might be that you’re grinding your teeth and wearing your teeth. You may have a thick neck, you may need to lose a little weight to take care of it, but a simple solution is a nice, comfortable sleep appliance like this. We also see sleep problems in kids. We can detect it very early. We can prevent kids from developing sleep problems as adults if we catch things early. We look at their swallowing patterns, are they tongue-tied — we can treat all that. My two-year-old granddaughter, we are already treating her because she was snoring and there’s no other device we can give to kids that can help them sleep better, prevent bedwetting, ADHD problems. There are many, many problems associated with kids. So, give us a call and we'll give you more information on this program and we'd love to see you here at the office.
