Relaxation/Sedation Dentistry

Greenville, SC dentist offers anxiety-free dental care with sedation

Greenville, SC area guests who are interested in learning about anxiety-free dental visits are welcome to speak to our dentist at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry about care with sedation dentistry. Sedation methods may vary from dentist to dentist, but Our Dentists are pleased to provide both oral conscious sedation and medication-free sedation using the NuCalm system.

  • Oral conscious sedation – with oral conscious sedation, guests will take a prescription pill that is administered before their visit to the dentist. Guests must arrange transportation to the office as they should not be driving or operating machinery while taking sedation medications. Please note that someone must be with the guest during the visit. The entire treatment is performed, and guests will have little to no recollection of the appointment as the drug wears off at home as they rest. This type of sedation is best for guests who have moderate to severe dental anxieties and want a more relaxing and positive experience at the dental office.
  • NuCalm – for guests with mild anxieties who would like to eliminate the use of prescription medications to relax, we also offer a system known as NuCalm. NuCalm is a drug-free alternative to oral conscious sedation. It integrates several aspects of relaxation that can ensure guests feel at ease during their dental visit. It addresses acute stress responses through music, black-out eyewear, and relaxation techniques. Guests find that NuCalm can help them get through their procedure while feeling at ease from start to finish.

Which sedation is right for me?

Most of our guests can benefit from one or both of our sedation methods. To determine the one best for you, we encourage you to book a consultation visit with Dr. John Palmer and his team to discuss your anxieties. Then, we can walk guests through the different options available to them and help them choose a solution for their unique stressors and concerns. When guests find a sedation method best for their needs, they are often overjoyed at how simple and relaxing their dental visits can be.

What treatments can sedation dentistry be utilized for?

There are many reasons a guest may choose sedation dentistry. For some guests, it is a good idea to consider sedation if they are having invasive surgeries done or are completing several treatments during one visit. This can make it easier to get through extensive dental work. Otherwise, some guests with more severe anxieties may need sedation dentistry for their routine cleanings and examinations. We are a judgement-free zone, and we invite guests to be open and honest about their anxieties so we can consider methods of improving their experience in our dental office.
