Clear Braces

Greenville area dentist addresses frequently asked questions about Invisalign

We receive a lot of questions about Invisalign and how it can help residents in the Greenville area straighten their smiles quickly, comfortably, and efficiently. Below is a list of some of the most frequently asked questions along with answers from our dental team.

How are you able to make all of the Invisalign trays at once?

Once impressions are taken, 3-D imaging technology is used to develop a treatment plan, starting with the initial positions of the teeth all the way through the desired position. Custom made aligners gradually move teeth enough for the next set of trays. Trays are switched out approximately every two weeks. This process is repeated until the teeth are in the final positions. Invisalign imaging is unique, it allows you to envision how straight your teeth will be after treatment.

What are the advantages of Invisalign?

Invisalign is clear, comfortable, and removable. Gone are the days of avoiding your favorite foods or having your braces taken off only to deal with a mouth full of cavities. Since the Invisalign trays are removable, you can properly clean your teeth and enjoy all of your favorite foods. The clear aligner trays are made of a durable, but comfortable plastic that will not irritate the mouth or gums like metal brackets and wires can.

What do the aligner trays look like?

Invisalign clear trays look similar to the trays used for at-home teeth whitening. They are custom made to actually move teeth.

Do the aligner trays hurt?

Invisalign trays do not hurt. You may feel some minor pressure and discomfort after you insert a new tray, but this is temporary and a good sign that your teeth are moving into the desired positions.

How often do I have to come in for check-ups with Invisalign?

Office visits are planned approximately every six weeks during your treatment. This is significantly less than the number of visits needed with traditional metal braces.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

Invisalign treatment times vary by guest and the issue being corrected. Treatment time is generally shorter than traditional braces, lasting anywhere between six and eighteen months.

Will the aligners affect my speech?

All dental appliances have an adjustment period. We recommend speaking as much as possible with the trays to speed up the time it takes to adjust to them.

What problems can Invisalign correct?

Invisalign can address a number of alignment, gap, and bite issues. An examination by our team can determine whether you are an eligible candidate for Invisalign.
