Holistic dental care in Greenville, SC: The many differences that add up to a better smile and healthier body

Have you heard of dental ozone? The importance of safely removing silver amalgam fillings? Does your dentist fail to get to know you as a person and the health problems or risk factors that can give rise to or worsen oral conditions? If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions, you’re certainly not alone. Not every dentist can claim to have these and other features of holistic dental care in Greenville SC. In fact, not every dentist who is marketed as a holistic practitioner can legitimately claim to practice this type of dentistry. Also known as biocompatible or biological dentistry, holistic dental care and the principles that are associated with it are not mere buzzwords. The therapies, technologies, materials, products, and approaches that fall under this banner have real implications for your health and wellbeing.

Get to know true holistic dentistry

Drs. Palmer and Adams offer services that are authentically holistic in nature. To truly practice holistic dentistry, they abide by the following principles:

  • Each technique, procedure, material and product at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry promotes whole-body health. For example, our dentists will select conservative treatments such as inlays and onlays over full-coverage dental crowns if the long-term integrity of the tooth is maintained. Conservative approaches generally minimize risk, trauma, and time in the treatment chair. Many of the technologies offered at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry also promote a happier, healthier guest. CEREC allows crowns and other restorations to be made within a single appointment – while you wait. Onsite technology like digital X-rays, dental lasers, ozone therapy, and NuCalm emit less radiation than conventional equipment, offer drill-free gentle treatment, promote healthy healing, and represent a non-narcotic calming alternative for anxious guests.
  • Biocompatible materials are a must, because they don’t pose toxicity risks or risks to guests with allergies and sensitivities. Amalgam or silver-colored fillings are controversial, because they contain around 50 percent mercury! This toxin has been scientifically linked to ailments ranging from gastrointestinal distress to kidney dysfunction. Our dentists only place aesthetically-pleasing, non-metal fillings. The office also goes beyond what is offered at other holistic practices by placing implants made from a type of tissue-friendly ceramic called zirconia. Many dentists only place implants made from titanium and these dentists often refer guests out to specialists for the actual surgical placement. Palmer Distinctive Dentistry has made the process easy and headache-free; every aspect of the implants process can be handled at the office by the dentists you already know and trust.
  • Equipment and procedures are in place to safely remove old or worn amalgam fillings and to replace them with lifelike, durable, and safe mercury-free fillings. Our dental office practices both mercury-free and mercury-safe dentistry. This feature is important, because the tiny particles and vapors released during the process of removing amalgam fillings pose health risks to guests, staff, and the environment. Safeguards minimize mercury exposure. Dr. Palmer’s training in Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Techniques is second-to-none; the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology selected him to demonstrate these procedures to other dental professionals.
  • Our practice is built on a foundation of empowering guests with accurate knowledge. Our team takes pride in getting to know you beyond the state of your teeth and gums; for instance, routine visits are comprehensive. Your visit includes the standard professional cleaning and exams, as well as a discussion with you about dietary and other habits that can negatively affect the health of your teeth and the rest of your body. When your oral health isn’t at its best, your body can’t be at its best. Holistic dentistry focuses on personalized care that evolves with you. Over time, you may develop medical conditions or take medications that can give rise to new oral health challenges, or existing dental disease can worsen or give rise to systemic conditions. A course of action is tailored specifically to the needs our dental team identifies during your ongoing appointments.
