Dental Implants

Using zirconia implants, your Greenville dentist preserves your healthiest smile

Our teeth are susceptible to a number of factors that can weaken their structure. As much as we can, it is our intent to keep teeth in their natural state as long as possible. We work with our guests to promote prolonged oral health, and take every available measure to avoid conditions that could lead to tooth loss. Should the loss of a tooth or teeth occur, fortunately, we have better options than ever for replacement. Dental implants, first introduced more than three decades ago, have changed the way we address tooth loss.

Dental implants are perhaps the best form of restoration in many situations. Some holistic practitioners even suggest that extracting an extensively damaged tooth and replacing it with a zirconia implant is a far healthier alternative than performing root canal therapy. The issue that we are careful to address is the use of the most suitable materials in dental implant treatment. While many dentists claim that titanium implants are safe, effective, and even biocompatible, we know that metal in the oral cavity produces responses within the body that degrade health. By using zirconia dental implants in our Greenville practice, we promote oral and general health.

When facing tooth replacement, we discuss the permanence and stability of dental implants. We also make the comparison between implants and traditional forms of tooth replacement, such as dentures or dental bridges, both fixed and removable.

Some of the benefits of dental implants that are not always immediately discussed include:

  • Dental implants have a positive impact on the entire dentition. A dental implant replaces both the missing crown as well as the root. This eliminates the need to rely on surrounding teeth for support, as it occurs with a dental bridge. The fact that adjacent teeth are left intact, and the implant can support itself in the chewing process, extends the life expectancy of all teeth.
  • Because dental implants replace the lost tooth root, underlying bone tissue is properly stimulated, as it is with a natural root. This is an important benefit of dental implants because bone structure is crucial to sustained oral support, as well as facial contours. In the absence of proper stimulation, bone tissue will resorb, or melt away. Depending on how many teeth are missing, this could lead to a sunken in appearance in the face.
  • Zirconia dental implants are resistant to corrosion and decay, making this restoration extremely strong. Being sustained by natural teeth, crowns or bridges may fail due to decay, whereas this is not a risk with dental implants. Dental implants are, however, reliant on healthy gum tissue for support. Caring for teeth and gums with excellent oral hygiene practices is ideal after dental implant treatment.
