Greenville dental services, delivered in a holistic and bio-friendly way for the ultimate in safety, comfort

Patients have been known to travel hundreds of miles to Palmer Distinctive Dentistry for care that lives up to its name. The drive is worth it for so many guests; they get relief from facial or jaw pain after years of suffering or overcome a lifetime of fear associated with “conventional” dental equipment, techniques, and practices. So, while some procedures featured on this website may seem similar to dental services in Greenville SC offered at other providers, Palmer Distinctive Dentistry views every guest as an individual – not as a generic set of symptoms to be treated, or just “teeth” and gums.” Drs. John Palmer and Debra Adams offer authentically holistic and biological approaches to care that can’t be found elsewhere.

Holistic dentistry

Every product, treatment, and technique accounts for the connection between the oral cavity and the rest of the body; for instance, the harmful bacteria and inflammation associated with advanced gum disease is also linked with serious medical conditions outside of the oral cavity. Inflammation in the mouth is thought to produce inflammation in the blood vessels, increasing the risk of a heart attack. Blood pressure rises as less blood travels between the heart and the rest of the body. Fatty plaques can break loose from the blood vessel’s walls, which then travel to the heart or brain and cause a heart attack or stroke. Bacteria in the oral cavity can also enter the bloodstream and attach to damaged parts of the heart.

So, Palmer Distinctive Dentistry’s team understands that preventing gum disease and other oral conditions is about so much more than maintaining attractive teeth and healthy gums. Drs Palmer and Adams work closely with guests to address their unique risk factors; for example, heart disease and periodontitis share common risk factors: tobacco use, poor diet, and excess weight. Often, the nutritional modifications that promote healthy teeth and gums also promote a healthy heart. When gum disease is avoided or resolved quickly, guests also promote robust bone, brain, and respiratory health as Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, and lung conditions like COPD are also linked to periodontitis.

The biocompatibility factor

Also, dental materials have the potential to either harm or help your oral and overall health. Some “conventional” dental materials are made from substances that are known toxins or are associated with allergic reactions. Dr. John Palmer is a fellow of the International Academy of Oral Medicine & Toxicology, which promotes the use of mercury-free filling materials. The IAOMT reports there are more than 250 specific health-related side effects related to dental amalgam fillings that contain mercury. Amalgam is a mix of metals – around 50% elemental or metallic mercury, and 50% tin, copper, and silver. While they may be silver-colored, mercury makes up most of each filling. Mercury from dental amalgam is released continuously, and at higher rates during chewing, grinding, clenching, or when a filling is placed, removed, and replaced. As both a “mercury-free” and “mercury-safe” practice, Palmer Distinctive Dentistry places metal-free composite resin fillings and abides by strict IAOMT standards to minimize guest, dentist, staff, and environmental exposure to mercury during the amalgam filling removal process.

Palmer Distinctive Dentistry also uses attractive and “tissue-friendly” zirconia by Z-Systems as an alternative to titanium implants. Zirconia is a type of ceramic, whereas titanium is a metal that isn’t appropriate for individuals with certain sensitivities and allergies.

Biological therapy

While exploring this website, you may come across references to “biological” dentistry. Biological therapies at the dentist’s office primarily refer to and ozone for the treatment of gum disease. You already know the many whole-health benefits of preventing and resolving gum disease; however, at Palmer Distinctive Dentistry, guests also enjoy precise, natural, gentle, and efficient alternatives to conventional invasive procedures. The application of ozone presents a scalpel-free way to deep clean damaged gums, preserve healthy tissues, destroy harmful bacteria, and re-establish a healthy oral environment.

This is just a small sampling of what makes Palmer Distinctive Dentistry so “distinctive.” The dental team distinguishes itself from many other practices, near and far, with services that include:

  • Cosmetic procedures such as KöR whitening for even the most stubborn stains, and Invisalign cosmetic “braces.”
  • Multi-faceted Temporomandibular Joint Disorder treatment with oral appliances, low-level laser or ultrasound therapies, and physical therapy and massage.
  • Technologies such as CEREC (teeth in a day – dental crowns are made while you wait), advanced and safe digital X-rays, and NuCalm non-narcotic relaxation technology.

Palmer Distinctive Dentistry’s team could go on and on about all the ways they’re different – for the benefit of each unique guest. Experience the differences. Call to schedule an appointment at the Greenville SC office.
