Biological Periodontal Therapy
The traditional method of treating periodontal (gum) disease is simply to clean the teeth and roots; if that fails, perform surgery. At Palmer Distinctive Dentistry, we begin with a thorough cleaning, followed by ozone treatments. This method eliminates the bacteria that cause gum disease, without surgery.
Ozone therapy
Contrary to popular misconception, ozone is not a toxin or a pollutant. It is a naturally occurring energized form of oxygen – it's what paints the sky blue, and shields us from harmful UV rays. When introduced to the body it improves blood flow, stimulates natural immune defenses, and facilitates more rapid healing. When ozone is applied, it causes what is known as a transient oxidative burst. This reaction is harmless to you, but kills infective microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa. Ozone therapy is used in the treatment of periodontal disease, as well ad sterilizing the tooth after decay is removed, or after an extraction. It can be injected to treat infection in the bone. We have experienced phenomenal results from ozone treatment, eliminating infection, reducing healing time, and even promoting bone recovery for some guests.
Oral hygiene
You already know that brushing and flossing are essential to prevent disease, and keep your mouth healthy. However, these steps are not always adequate, and are difficult for some guests. When you visit Palmer Distinctive Dentistry, ask about additional ways to improve oral health.Hydro Floss – This hydromagnetic oral irrigation system is designed to complement flossing, or be used as an alternative if necessary. Two separate double-blind studies have proven that this system reduces calculus 44 to 64 percent.
Dental Herb Company® – This is a full line of dental hygiene products (antiseptic mouth rinse, antiseptic gum irrigant, toothpaste, and breath freshener), made from organic or wildcrafted tinctures and essential oils. They are free of alcohol, sweeteners, and chemical preservatives.
It's time to begin your journey to a healthy, beautiful smile – call Palmer Distinctive Dentistry (864) 879-6494 today.
What is Biological Periodontal Therapy? - Dr. John Palmer
What is Biological Periodontal Therapy? What is Ozone Therapy? Are you someone looking for answers to these questions? Watch the video to learn more, as Dr. John Palmer of Palmer Distinctive Dentistry explains.Basically, it's non-invasive and non-surgical gum therapy. Gum disease is caused by bacteria, viruses, and other things that cause disease that are in the biosystem (the microcosm), and the only way to really get into that microcosm is to use an oxidizing agent. So, we use ozone. Ozone is oxygen with an extra molecule attached to it and is supplied as a gas we create here in our office, and immediately when placed into the tissue where the infection is, it mainly goes into the solution. And that solution forms peroxides, it forms nitric oxides, and all these natural things the body does anyway is what kills the bacteria. We have a series of treatments depending on the severity of the disease, and we have seen great success in treating periodontal disease without having surgery done. We have been doing that treatment here for probably 20 years and it is just unbelievable, the success rates we’ve had.
