Biological Periodontal Therapy

What ozone therapy from your Greenville dentist does for oral health

Non-invasive ways to promote oral health makes dental care more pleasant. At Palmer Distinctive Dental, our philosophy is to treat the body as a whole, with the mouth being an integral part of overall health. Ozone therapy, used for decades in biological dentistry, is regularly used in our Greenville practice for a number of reasons.

Two of the most common dental issues dentists treat are cavities and gum disease. In fighting the battle against these conditions, we must address the root cause, which are bacteria. The bacteria that live in the mouth thrive in this area of low-oxygenation, concentrating in tight spaces and below the gum line.

The mouth provides the ideal environment for bacteria, especially when it becomes acidic. Bacteria produce acid-waste after consuming food and sugar particles, creating a domino effect for excessive growth. In applying ozone to teeth and gums, acid-making bacteria are destroyed and the acidic waste is neutralized. In this form of treatment, the entire oral environment is altered to become less inviting to the bacteria that damage tooth and gum structure. In the new environment created after the delivery of ozone therapy, good bacteria are encouraged to replace those that are harmful to oral health. Simply killing bacteria, as general dentistry often aims to do, is only a temporary fix. When we remove the acidic environment, harmful bacteria are discouraged for several months.

Our guests benefit in several ways from the use of ozone in our practice. Ozone therapy can be used as a pre-treatment rinse to disinfect the area being treated, or may be used as a treatment itself. Ozone has been shown effective in addressing small cavities, as well as in the treatment of gum disease. As a therapeutic treatment, ozone may be used in liquid or gas form, or a combination of the two. How ozone therapy is applied is based on the unique needs of each guest, with the goal of restoring or sustaining oral health.

As your area biological dentist, Dr. Palmer incorporates proven technologies that have been thoroughly tested for safety and efficiency. Ozone, with its long history of optimal results, provides our guests with a viable solution to oral disease.
