Biological Periodontal Therapy

Greenville area residents ask about treatment and prevention for periodontal gum disease

Taking care of our teeth and gums is a vital component to overall health. There are many health issues that have connections to symptoms in the mouth, and there are oral conditions that can put you at an increased risk for diabetes, stroke, and heart disease. A beautiful, healthy smile can help you lead a healthy life. We have many guests who want to know more about best oral health practices, specifically how to prevent periodontal disease. To help our guests in Greenville and the surrounding areas, we've put together some of our recommendations for good oral care.

  • Stay regular with dental visits. Many guests believe they only need to see the dentist when there is an issue. This simply isn't the case. Visiting the dentist at least every six months is a vital component of oral care. One reason is the professional cleaning you receive during your visit. This cleaning can help remove plaque and tartar that have built up on the teeth between visits. Another reason is so we can monitor the health of the mouth and identify any potential problems. Periodontal or gum disease is a big issue among adults that often goes unnoticed until it has progressed and caused irreversible damage. Identifying gum disease early can help save the health of the mouth.
  • Brush at least twice each day. Sounds easy, yet many people still don't brush enough, or correctly. If food particles are left on the teeth they can lead to cavities. If you are unsure about proper brushing techniques or which toothbrush and toothpaste to use, we are happy to make recommendations.
  • Floss every day. This is another easy task that often gets left out of the oral care routine. Food can easily become lodged in the spaces between teeth. Flossing helps remove this debris and keep the teeth clean and free of plaque buildup.
  • Eat a healthy diet. Nutrition is a major part of oral health. Sugary foods and beverages feed bacteria and create acid that can eat away at the enamel and lead to cavities. A healthy diet can help keep your teeth (and your entire body) healthy.

For guests who do develop periodontal disease, we offer ozone therapy. During this safe, holistic treatment, ozonated water and gas can be used to clean below the gum line to remove bacteria and infection
