What to do in preparation for an extraction

When preparing for your extraction, there are some ways you can assist in making sure the procedure runs smoothly.

  • First, ask questions. If any aspects of the surgery are confusing or unclear, bring it up with your dentist. There is no question too small or silly for your dentist to take seriously and answer accurately.
  • Next, make sure that your dentist has your complete medical history. Chances are you will be provided with a form to fill out where you can detail this, so be accurate as possible to allow any potential risks to be addressed based on your medical history.
  • A dental extraction will require some form of anesthesia and pain relief. You may know that certain forms of anesthesia do not work for you or that you’ve had allergic reactions in the past. Make sure your dentist knows any history you may have had with anesthesia.
  • Finally, in preparation for your extraction, you will want to ensure that you drink plenty of water before your extraction, you will want to be fully hydrated.
