Sensitivity? Stubborn stains? No problem! Get a stunning smile in Greenville SC with KöR whitening treatment

A Google search for teeth whitening generates more than 106 million results! From strips to toothpastes to chewing gums, these products often contain so little of the active bleaching ingredient that they can’t possibly create noticeable results. OTC products and Do-It-Yourself pastes, rubs, and rinses can be incredibly abrasive. You may do more harm than good to your teeth and gums. As a holistic office, Palmer Distinctive Dentistry only uses safe, proven techniques and treatments that are gentle to teeth and gum tissue. When skillfully applied or prescribed by Dr. John Palmer, teeth whitening treatment in Greenville SC can get you a dramatically whiter smile and lift stubborn stains without irritating your gums or causing painful tooth sensitivity.

KöR Whitening

Dr. Palmer and his team use a system often referred to as deep bleaching: KöR. Years of research, development, and clinical testing have resulted in a powerful system that can remove stains and discoloration previously thought to be untreatable, such as:

  • White spots caused by excessive childhood fluoride use (fluorosis)
  • Blue, gray, brown, and yellow stains caused by early tetracycline use
  • Very dark brown, yellow, and orange age-related discoloration

All stains are not the same. The superficial type of staining is called extrinsic. It only affects the outermost layer of the enamel. You may have coffee, wine, soda, and tobacco to blame for gradual yellowing of your teeth through the years. Extrinsic stains are generally the easiest type of discoloration to treat with professional-grade products.

Intrinsic stains are harder to treat, because they affect the layer of tooth structure underneath the enamel: dentin. The only way to remove this type of discoloration is with powerful deep bleaching treatments at the dentist’s office. Not every dentist can lift these stains. Instead, some dental offices will recommend covering up tetracycline, fluoride, and other intrinsic stains with porcelain veneers. These veneers only camouflage the stains; they don’t lift them. Dr. Palmer and his team recognize every guest is different. Alternative treatments such as porcelain veneers are also available and can cover up other dental concerns that guests may have in addition to discoloration, such as chips and gaps.

What makes KöR so special?

KöR restores the ability for your teeth to absorb oxygen. The oxygen in this system’s specially formulated whitening gel seeps deeply into the teeth. As tooth structure becomes more conditioned and permeable to bleaching factors, teeth whiten better. These processes result in the breakdown of large stain molecules into smaller, colorless particles. In turn, even the most stubborn discoloration is effectively dissolved and removed.

If you’ve hesitated to get your teeth whitened due to your history of dental sensitivity and discomfort, KöR may be for you. KöR’s advanced whitening gel effectively removes intrinsic and very dark stains comfortably. The gel contains desensitizers, which prevent the risk of sensitivity traditionally associated with bleaching procedures. When the enamel that protects your teeth erodes due to wear or decay, that less dense underlying dentin layer can become exposed. Tooth sensitivity arises when the heat or cold seeps through the microscopic tubes in this soft dentin layer. When this occurs, the nerves inside of the pulp at the core of the tooth are triggered. Bleaching treatments can make teeth especially sensitive due to the process of oxygenation that lifts stains.

Other systems address this painful problem by simply masking the symptoms. Yet, they don’t eliminate the inflammation in the pulp at the center of your tooth. KöR’s desensitizers prevent sensitivity from occurring in the first place. The system is designed so that the bleaching ingredients don’t produce teeth vulnerable to painful pulpal-related inflammation and sensitivity.

What to expect from KöR treatment

KöR is not a single approach, but rather many options designed to suit each guest’s unique needs, lifestyle, and goals. Your KöR treatment may vary from a friend’s or family member’s experience. Dr. Palmer can safely whiten from the office or prescribe a home whitening treatment. A combination of both in-office and home treatments may be in your future, depending on your needs.

Unlike store-bought whitening kits that are available in only one size, Palmer Distinctive Dentistry customizes the trays that deliver the bleaching gel to your mouth. When worn as directed by Dr. Palmer, the trays evenly and beautifully whiten your teeth gradually – and without the irritation caused by one-size-fits-all kits.

Due to the unique nature of the KöR system, results are lasting but maintenance treatments may be suggested. Call with your questions and to schedule an appointment.
