Ozone dental treatment can be an effective means to help guests in Greenville with periodontal disease

Typically, the word ozone is used in terms of the atmosphere and air pollution, but ozone actually has powerful medical uses. Ozone is what protects the skin from the UV rays that can cause skin cancer; it can be used to sterilize water, in purification systems, and even in swimming pools.

The reason ozone is heard of most often in terms of atmospheric pollution is because it binds with pollutants, acting as a natural filter. Since it binds to the pollutants, ozone levels are measured to give an idea of pollution levels.

Recently there has been an influx of information about ozone uses in dentistry. This is because medical applications of ozone have been found to be safe with almost zero side effects. Our bodies naturally produce ozone in white blood cells to kill microorganisms. Ozone has a negative charge, which means it naturally attracts cells with a positive charge such as bacteria, viruses, and free radicals. This process makes ozone very effective to help treat the bacteria and infection that comes along with periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease has a direct impact on overall health. As a biological dental practice, we want to make sure that our guests’ mouths and bodies are healthy. While our number one goal is to help prevent occurrences of periodontal disease, we also want our guests to have treatments they can count on. Any time we treat periodontal disease we make sure that any steps taken are safe for the guest and minimize risks for future problems.

Periodontal disease can be a complicated issue and we always begin by thoroughly examining the teeth and gums before developing a treatment plan.

In most cases, one of the main forms of treatment for periodontal disease is a deep cleaning to remove infection and bacteria from the pockets around the teeth. While this is often a successful method, we also offer guests the benefits of ozone therapy.

Ozone can be administered in either water or gas form and can destroy the bacteria that cause gum disease. Guests in Greenville who suspect they may have a gum disease are encouraged to call our office for more information on ozone treatment and other forms of biological dentistry.
